A Deep Pain

Her eyes flutter open

to sweet summer light

to dancing rays that twinkle gold

to a new morning

a piece of paper stainless and unblemished

for a moment she smiles

a hopeful twitch of her lips

a light in her dark hazel eyes

but all it takes is a glimpse

a flicker of a shadow

for the moment to wash away

like paint that was never meant to stay

colors swirl into one another

colliding in emotions

Her smile shatters

She is a broken fairy

her wings twisted and distorted

limp at her sides

two big glassy tears glisten on her midnight eyelashes

She tries to fly again, but she falls

She falls endlessly

until her body is a fragment of the old

weak, torn, voiceless
