Christmas

Christmas shimmers in wisps of snowflake

Lovers kissing under a sugar plum morning

Children dancing through clementine sundown

Trees glitter and candles cast diamond light

Candy cane stained smiles erupt in gathering crowds

Miracles trace swirls on frozen waters and voices crystallize in song

A mystery of jingle bells splinters the pale sky

And the Earth is safe inside a snow globe dreaming in endless tranquility

  1. Wonderful poem Lily! Reminds me of some of my poems in recent weeks about snowglobes you’ve liked. You’ve said I at times inspire parts of your poems, and I’ve noticed you having that effect on me as well. Solomon has a proverb that says “As iron sharpens iron, so one sharpens another” which it makes me think of. It’s an honor to be influenced by someone like yourself who has such a beautiful way with words, I truly believe you have helped sharpen my creative skills over time, so thank you for that ๐Ÿ™‚ Have a Merry Christmas Lily!

    PS
Your poem brought to mind the snowglobe-eske lyrics (“here it’s December everyday” etc.) and imagery of the music video for the song below, that I really like. The singer in the video looks similar to me (scalp hair at least… haven’t shaved my face in a while lol), and the woman in the dream looks similar to the woman in that dream I had in 2008 that I have blogged often about, and so the song has special meaning to me. Seeing now that it goes well with your poem, perhaps it can have some fun creative meaning to you! Thought it was worth sharing ๐Ÿ™‚

    “Love Like Winter”
    by AFI

Warn your warmth to turn away,
    Here it’s December,
Everyday. [small girlish echo:] I like that

Press your lips to the sculptures,
And surely you’ll stay. [distant:] love like winter

    For of sugar and ice,
I am made. I am made

    It’s in the blood,
    It’s in the blood.
I met my love before I was born.
    He wanted love,
    I taste of blood.
He bit my lip, and drank my warmth,
From years before, from years before.

    She exhales vanilla lace,
I barely dreamt her, yesterday. [echo:] yesterday
Read the lines in the mirror through,
    The lipstick trace.
    Por siempre

She said “It seems you’re somewhere, far away” to his face.

    It’s in the blood,
    It’s in the blood.
I met my love before I was born.
    She wanted love,
    I taste of blood.
She bit my lip, and drank my warmth,
From years before, from years before.

    Love Like Winter.

    Love Like Winter.

    Winter.
    Three, four

    It’s in the blood,
    It’s in the blood.
I met my love before I was born.
    He wanted love,
    I taste of blood.
He bit my lip, and drank my warmth,
From years before, from years before.
    From years before.
